No different to any other club really. Man City lost out on Cucurella. Man Utd have been chasing De Jong all summer. Newcastle have pulled out of loads of transfers as they aren’t willing to pay the money being asked.

Take this news story (with a pinch of salt I suppose, but it's a good example) from the mail on the newspapers thread. This sort of sums it up for me in terms of how we seem to go about things:

"West Ham United have submitted an audacious bid in the region of £25million for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes. However, the Portuguese club are reportedly demanding a minimum of £42million for the talented 23-year-old, as reported by Record."

How many times have we read similar about countless other players and clubs we are supposedly trying to do business with? A pisstake bid that's never likely to come close to being accepted, followed by 'We did all we could'...

Is it any wonder we hardly ever get things over the line when the board give it all this bluster and big talk about our intentions but then never open the wallet? The way Sullivan goes about it reminds me of when you occasionally see someone try to haggle the cashiers in a supermarket over the price of bog roll or something. The price is the fucking price. He's trying to shop in Fortnum and Mason with Aldi money and it's no surprise our targets barely ever materialise as a result, nor that we never secure the manager's top targets and end up either compromising or going without.

They run this club like a fucking market stall.

Basically, fed up of Moyes constantly banging on aout not buying players for the sake of it like it's an excuse not to spend any money.

The club hung Antonio out to dry last season by not providing him with any support or opportunity to rest, it's a miracle that he didn't pick up another injury.

Now he looks spent before the season has even started.

If Moyes is seriously suggesting that he is trying to put together a squad of 22 players of top 6 quality then he's a bit deluded.

If we had 22 players to start with then we would possibly be in a good position to start upgrading some of those players.

But the problem is that the starting point is a thin squad with inadeute cover in some positions already.

Over the last few years I dont think we've ever though that, with a fully fit squad we are unable to put out a decent first 11. That's never been the issue. The issue has always been that beyond this first 11 we do not have enough quality to last the season and the injury's suspensions and illnesses etc that a regular season, plus European football throws at you.

Totally agree, Russ/Mex/Fonz,

Don’t know whether it will change under Kretinsky from next year. Hopefully it will. But somebody needs to come in and overhaul the entire approach to transfers.

Moyes indicated he’s in full charge of them last season. I don’t believe that for a moment. Too many moving parts in our Del Boy approach (the David’s, favoured agents, shit scouting etc).

I think our transfer business is tolerable when we shop in the championship and some of the European leagues as they will expect a bit of wheeler dealer. Once you start trying to upgrade, Sullivan comes across as an utter lowballing cunt, it’s like walking into ‘Arrods and expecting to barter like you are in Petticoat Lane I am also of the opinion he majorly insults most of the PL & the top clubs in Europe by being this cunt ‘businessman’. The Diop situation I feel was more to do with the injuries to Aguerd/Dawson etc….he was expecting to go and didn’t want to be added to the injury list to not get his move.

Good post. I would also add that we are just as utterly shambolic when it comes to getting a profit on players going out the club.

There's absolutely no co-ordinated and structured policy in place for either in's or out's. No short or long term strategy. For a club of our size it is an absolute disgrace.

Something has happened this summer which has further changed the dynamic in our transfer policy/dealings.

Can’t say I know for certain what it is - although I have my suspicions that it’s to do with the fact that we’ve now got two sets of “owners” to answer to until next summer.

But we’ve been nowhere near landing our key transfer targets this summer. Not even close to Lingard - the fact that he joined Forest says everything. Didn’t get the Broja deal off the ground etc etc.

No firm decision on Diop until the season had started - meaning he refused to play. Even Arthur’s (beneficial) exit was all a bit last minute.

It’s been chaotic, disjointed and a bit of a failure. Thankfully, the lure of Europe meant we still signed a decent looking striker - our first for three years. And we got lucky with Cornet, who looks a decent alternative to Lingard, purely because Burnley had been relegated. But they both look like good players, even if they were not first choices.

We’ve never been great in the transfer market - not since John Lyall’s days. But this summer has been an in-coordinated shambles. Add to that the fact that ALL sides make some rickets - such as the ridiculously un-necessary signing of Vlasic last year, which has turned into a massive waste of millions - and it doesn’t look great.

As a club we need to up our game on transfers and develop a permanent structure and system. We’re pretty shoddy generally, it’s all too ad hoc and it pre-dates Moyes.

He’s done a decent job. Arent many who have managed in the prem that can say they did better. That might mean hes s good safe psir of hands but not a risk taker.

Was looking earlier at Moyes signings when he was at Everton. Some that worked brilliantly and some that were just disastrous. I know most managers have that sort of record but there wasn't too many in the did a good job category, it seems extremes. Did a decent job at Everton but never really kicked on,,,,sound familiar?!

As far as I can tell paying “ top dollar” for a player for not guarantee that player is the best. Equally paying “bottom dollar” doesn't mean the player is poor. The wage defines the quality of the player ultimately. You can get away with a low wage for a time but in the end you either renegotiate or sell.
So. I would agree with Moyes if you could say you have found your top six players snd you need to pay higher wages. So long as you trust and have mutual respect. The hard thing is knowing the full spectrum of the players mentality before signing.

The Kral saga was utterly bizarre. A healthy scratch in most games. Must have been some stuff going on behind the scenes because it made no sense not to even give him ten minutes here or there. I can only guess there have to have been some problems with him physically or personality wise, combined with some sort of clause to make him permanent if he played over X games or minutes for us? He'd have to be UTTER shit to not even get a few mins occasionally without anything else going on.

Considering Kral was Moyes's ONE TO WATCH at the Euros a few weeks before he signed for us, I'd be surprised if that wasn't his choice.

Especially considering Moyes also told us he's in total control of transfers again around about the same time.

We fucked about on the fee, finally agreeing to pay what they wanted, by which time the bloke had fucked off half way up the Orinoco on international duty in the Copa America
There was no chance of extracting him - either deliberately evasive or just plain inept, either way an absolute insult to us fans, his club, the agents and the player himself
Any wonder why we struggle?

Vlasic? Kral? Benrahma? All of those players STINK of Sullivan turning up at Rush Green with them in his car as 'little presents' for the manager.
